365 Project Day 93: Faithfulness

As we walk down our drive he collects rocks, the larger ones in particular. I ask him what they are for. He points to the spot in the distance on our long driveway. He needn’t say anything. I know now. He is pointing to one of the many persistent pot holes on our little road. He is filling it, one rock at a time. I smile at him, because this is who he is. A one-rock-at-time kind of person. It is one of the things I love about him most. He is steadfast and patient. I ask to photograph the rocks in his hand. I am taking a photo of my husband’s character.
Cowboy sits by him as he works. Another faithful one. It is a quality to be treasured.
I lift my eyes and see the large oak tree silhouetted against the setting sun. Again I see a theme. God has placed images of His faithfulness, His steadfast nature and love, all around me.
A little further down the road, a shadow of two who have become one. Commitment to stay, to love. “Look, it’s us”, I say as I press the shutter.
And then there are the flowers, who return every Spring to sing glory. They look like purple confetti suspended over the earth. Their song never changes.
And perhaps my favorite of all, a husband who freely and consistently worships the Faithful One Himself. How could I not love him?
Psalm 145:13 ~ “Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.”
Proverbs 3:3 ~’Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.”

365 Project Day 80: First Day of Spring

Annie and I decided to explore a field of yellow flowers today in honor of the first day of Spring. I saw it yesterday on the way to church and knew I had to come back to it. It is one of the many joys of living in the country. Annie makes a perfect spring day model. She looks like sunshine personified.
So glad Spring is officially here. Tomorrow Johnny celebrates his 18th birthday. Time moves so swiftly. Let us capture and breathe in these sweet moments while we can.
Here are a few more of my Annie Sunshine in the yellow flowers.

365 Project Day 79: Signs of Hope

Sometimes the rain closes in. No inspiring light, no singing birds. Winter lingers longer than I want her to. Head heavy and heart tired, I sleep. When I wake, what light was there is nearly gone. I sigh.
Peering out my window I see them. The first Dogwood blossoms of Spring. Their little faces contrasted brightly against the bleak and rainy woods. I can almost hear them whispering. “Don’t give up. Spring is coming. She is almost here.”
I throw back the covers and grab my camera, hoping to capture them before the light slips away. They are sweet, but wild, these Dogwood blossoms, their branches twisting this way and that. Untamed beauty, they were growing here when we built our home. They were announcing the coming of Spring before we were here to hear them. They do it because it is what they were made to do. They worship the Creator God every year this time, whispering, singing, and then when in full bloom, shouting of His faithfulness, of His Glory.
If you are tired, hold on. Spring is coming. She is almost here.
Happy Sunday everyone.

Project 365 Day 70: Nashville Spring
Posted on 12. Mar, 2011 by maryanne.
Canon 5D Mark ll, 50 1.2L, 4.0 aperture, 1/400 shutter 100 ISO
Katie and I saw these beautiful buildings framed with Bradford Pears this morning on the way to the venue where I am covering this year’s YEC event. I am discovering more and more how enamored I am with lovely light. The sunlight was reflecting off another building onto this one, as the blue sky shone in the windows. It was a delight to my eyes and lifted my spirits. We were lugging all of my gear as we walked, but I piled everything up on the sidewalk and apologized to people trying to pass by as I stopped to get my shot. This is something I am learning more and more to do.
I do not feel it is a coincidence. Throughout this project, I feel God has gently reminded and prodded me to enjoy the moments of my life. To truly live and breathe and enjoy the present moments I am in. Even this one now as I softly type words onto a screen while Katie sleeps after a very long day. We are both exhausted. But, I have my image. It is like a trinket that I can slip into my pocket to keep, a treasure gleaned while passing through Nashville in the Spring.
I look forward to whatever tomorrow holds, as it will surely be laden with new mercies.:)

365 Project Day 62: Hope

Canon 5D Mark ll, 100 mm macro 2.8, 1/160 shutter, 100 ISO
Don’t you feel it, looking at this little blossom, standing tall, with a veritable prism of color resting on her tiny petals, sparkling in sunshine?
These are the flowers that line the paths we tread. God puts signs of His hope, His love, at my very feet every day. If I am not aware or careful, I would crush them underfoot, on my way as I strive, work, and suffer under the weight of worry and discontent. Breathing slowly and deeply and I stop and bend down to them, these little glories heralding the love of the Father for all who would see, and hear. How He must love us, as He breathes out blossoms like kisses to cover the very ground we walk on.
Once again, I am rescued, saved from my own ungratefulness, and I find joy and hope knowing I am loved and thought of. ” Thank you”, I say to Him, and to the sweet flowers. ” Thank you for shining His glory into my spirit today”.
“Thank you”.
Armed with my macro lens, I captured several little glories today to share with you. May hope spring up for you as well.

Project 365 Day 30: To Cheer You

I wish I could bring each of you a lovely bunch of Gerber Daisies like this one. This is the best I can do. Their faces beam with joy and color. I hope they bring some cheer into your world today, and whisper to you of the spring that is just over the horizon. It won’t be long until flowers like these are bursting from the soil at our feet.
Happy Sunday everyone. Get some rest, and let the joy in…
Until tomorrow!

A cup of violets
Posted on 30. Mar, 2010 by maryanne.
Another busy week in my world. Most of it spent at the computer, quoting jobs and processing photos. Then, out of nowhere, comes today. Sunshine and flowers everywhere. It was like a dear friend coming up from behind and putting their hands over my eyes, saying “guess who?”. Spring, that’s who. The cherry trees are in full bloom, the sky is a bit more blue, and the sheep have little lambs in the pasture next door. Then, there are the violets. I love violets, even though they tend to grow where I don’t want them. They remind me of my childhood and every Spring from then on. When Johnny and I came home from lunch, I saw them. The ground was covered in them. I had several things to do, but knew instinctively they would all have to wait. So, I played all afternoon. In the violets.
It was like playing hooky on a school day. I picked them, arranged them in beautiful china cups and gazed at them through my different lenses. Guess who? Spring, that’s who. Welcome home sweet friend. Here are some images from the day. I found some other sweet visitors as well.
