Slow Down

May 19, 2012

On Top of the World

I can hear Him, almost like He is standing next to me, whispering into my ear. “Slow down,” the spirit of God is gently encouraging me. May has been a busy month with our two daughters graduating from two colleges in one week. I feel like I am just preparing for and hurrying onto the next thing at all times. And yet I hear Him, so tenderly quieting me and telling me to slow and rest in His presence. He is helping me to be grateful for the little moments that often get shuffled into the shadows of the bigger ones.

Ann Voskamp says it so well in her book  One Thousand Gifts,” Life is not an emergency.” She is so right. What is all the hurry about? We run from point A to point B and often forget why.

Savoring the Moment

And so, as my oldest daughter graduates with her Masters degree on Monday, I will endeavor to slow down and enjoy every moment.

If you would like to know more about learning to slow and enjoy your life more, I highly recommend Ann’s book, One Thousand Gifts. She writes with beautiful imagery, sharing how God helped her to slow time though gratitude. So good.

Psalm 16:11~ You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

thanks for the reminder to slow down…May has been hectic on my end too for various reasons and I know after this upcoming Sunday I will be able to “rest”, but I also know I don’t want to miss any of the little day to day things. I will have to add ‘One Thousands Gifts’ to the book list too!

Okay, these are some of my favorite images of yours since I discovered your blog! Spectacular. And I agree with you about “One Thousand Gifts.” It’s a treasure. Love it. I still pick it up often to savor the wisdom again.
