Day 7 Pony

Beautiful Astro

Beautiful Astro

Today I took my pony Astro out for a walk. He’s not really a pony. He is a little Paso Fino horse and he is glorious. Every move he makes is sweeping and stately. He knows who he is. He was made to bear up princes and princesses. I do my best to make him feel at home at our little country farm.

I had forgotten how intoxicating the sound of horse hooves on pavement is. Clip clop, clip clop. My heart stirred at the soft and steady sound. I closed my eyes as we walked, taking in the sweetness of it. “Thank you God for that sound”, I whispered as tears filled my eyes.  I wasn’t weeping just because I loved the sound of Astro’s hooves on pavement. I was also weeping because I had taken a gift for granted. It was like the scales fell of my eyes and I saw the gift all over again.

God has given me horses. This is a dream I have had my whole life. When I was a little girl the dream was bigger than I was. Horses were all I thought about.

As we continued to walk, I told Astro all these things. I told him I was grateful for him and that it was indeed the Lord of heaven and earth who had given him to me. He blinked his long lashes and kept walking, sighing a soft sigh. I think he understood.

It is so important to take our dreams out for a walk. It is vital to tend the fires that God put in us. I believe doing so keeps us young and reminds us to be grateful for how far he has brought us.

When we got back to the barn, Astro nuzzled my shoulder with his velvety nose. It was almost as if he was saying, “Hey, lets do this again really soon”. Yes, I would like that. My hope is that I fully embrace God’s gifts to me. Wouldn’t it be just like the enemy of my soul to work ever so hard to keep me from enjoying the things God has already given me?

What can you think of that you always wanted to do or have? Has this desire gone to sleep? Never stop praying for the things you desire. God can answer as he sees fit, but know that his heart is for you and he delights in giving us good gifts.

Matthew 7:11 ~”If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

James 1:17 ~”Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

I grew up riding and showing horses, I had to sell my last horse almost 4 years ago this spring. She was the best horse and I have missed her every day since. It was a God thing though, that I sold her, as we had just bought our first house in town and could not afford to board her. I so badly want another horse but must wait until we are able to buy a house with land to build a barn. I miss that mare every single day. I love reading your blog, thank you!

I needed this nudge to remind me to dream, I’ve allowed mine to sleep…
