Day 23 Portrait of a Horse

I took this image this morning when I went down to the barn to check on the horses. Gunsmoke appeared to be contemplating life through his stall window, looking so regal with the wind blowing in his mane. The light played on his black tresses, creating colors as it moved. I knew I had found my image for the day.

Just looking at a horse makes me feel like everything is going to be okay, even if just for a moment. Winston Churchill is credited with the quote ” There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.” I couldn’t agree more. Look at him. He is elegant and yet so very strong. He has the makings of a dancer, with his powerful and swift limbs. (Have you ever seen a dressage event??)  He makes the earth thunder when he gallops and we all have to stop what we are doing because our hearts thunder too. The fine bones in his face and his large amber eyes are made by the hands of an artist.

I believe God loves horses especially so. He put so much thought into their design and so much heart into our attraction to them. He gave them large hearts and keen minds, soft noses and the most amazing smell. Oh the smell of a horse!

Someday, our Lord will return on a white horse according to scripture. Can you imagine the beauty and splendor of that creature? What a day that will be!

Revelation 19:11 ~” I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True.”

This is so true. Horses and dogs, God’s precious creations, sooth and heal the wounds of the very soul. In the middle of grief spending time with an animal brings joy in new places if the heart.
