Day 14 Painting with Light

Lovely Night

Every now and then I like to try something new in photography and a 365 project is the perfect opportunity to do that. Tonight, in the cold winter night, I tried painting with light. Light painting involves using a tripod, a very slow shutter speed and a flash light or something similar. The flashlight is used to “paint” the object that is to be photographed while the shutter is open. The result is unique and interesting. This is my favorite front yard tree in all its winter glory. The soft light creates a dreamy look. I do love this and hope to do more like it in the future. The beauty is that the sky and stars are pulled into the image as well because the shutter speed is so slow.

Sometimes it is good to do something different and out of our comfort zone to awaken the artist within. I was definitely out of my comfort zone standing in the cold in my PJ’s under the winter sky. But it was beautiful. Janey (my goldendoodle) stayed with me while I washed the tree in light over and over again. She is a good photography buddy. She never complains.

So here is to trying something new. I am also learning to bake bread from freshly milled wheat. That isn’t going as well as the light painting and is much messier.

Oh well. Practice,practice, practice!

    beautiful!!!
I read your posts eagerly, but don’t comment – I feel like my words are far to inadequate for yours, and your lovely photographs, but, I am a pretty excellent maker of bread from freshly milled wheat, and I thought perhaps I can be of assistance? ?
