365 Project Day 35: Flood Warning

Flood Warning

Canon 5D Mark ll, 70-200L, 2.8 aperture, 1/100 shutter 1250 ISO

It has rained for a straight 36 hours now. We had flood warnings in the area all day and night. This is what Johnny does with a flood warning.

I was literally outside in the rain photographing in a puddle when he came to find me. I imagine I looked kind of pitiful. He said he was going riding and asked if I wanted to come along to get my shot for the day. I knew the shots I had were pretty lame, so with some trepidation I acquiesced. I didn’t want to miss out on the adventure.

The only problem (besides the thick mud) was that the place where we needed to go for the shots was kind of far away. He assured me I would be fine on the back of the bike in the deep muddy waters. We have done this a couple times before, but never in this much of a mess. I put my gear in an old backpack and gently got onto the back of the bike. And held on tight. By the time we were at our destination, my entire backside was a sheet of Georgia red clay, including the pack I was carrying. Hmmm. I squished on ahead to find a good shooting position and hunkered down next to a large puddle. Needless to say, both my camera and I  got a face full a couple of times. Nice.

Actually, it really was just what the doctor ordered. I have been sick and in the house for a couple days. Add rain to that and well, I was a little stir crazy. JMo came to the rescue. He wanted to call the shot Legacy. He loves that we took a soupy, nasty day and had some real adventure. Yeah, me too.

Sometimes you just have to get on the bike and hold on. 🙂
