365 Project Day 269: Raising a Warrior

I think of David’s mother, and how she must have prayed for her son. Her shepherd-warrior son who would become king of all Israel. She probably never knew how great he would become as she rocked him at night and whispered sweet mother prayers over his head and into his ears. She was probably blissfully ignorant of the trials he would endure and the battles he would face.  She just loved him, as all mothers love their children, but did she also go before God with bold prayers for his heart? Did she intuitively sense the need to wrap him in words woven in secret to her Father?  What was her role in the life and blessing that would eventually be his?

I pray for my warrior too.

He also is a young man of the earth and sunshine. He loves to sleep under stars and climb mountains, craving to conquer, living for adventure. I pray he will also apprehend the very heart of God, to seek it like he seeks the deer in the wood. I pray he will be a man after God’s own heart. I watch him as he grows in wisdom and stature, and my heart swells with gratitude.  God is faithful and hears a mother’s prayers. He may not be king someday, but I pray he will know He that is the King of all creation, and that He will walk with Him like a friend and a son.

1 Samuel 1:27 ~ “I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him.

Luke 2:52 ~ “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”

Yes, this is a favorite. I can see Johny as a warrior. A warrior of God’s kingdom in this world. Thank you for this beautiful picture of a wonderful young man whom I love dearly.

Johnny reminds me of what young King David may have been like. Strong, yet one who wrote songs, like Johnny. I know that Johnny is a man of God which is what I would want him to be. I am so proud of him.
